This week I have been developing my app idea through wireframes. I have been drawing out some lo-fi wireframes and wireflows to prompt me to discover lacking features or processes. I quickly changed my idea slightly after some initial feedback from it being a user-to-business to a user-to-user process. I was going to have it so that there would be warehouses dotted around the country that would collect and store leftover props from productions, but I soon discovered that this wouldn’t be very feasible, at least at the beginning. So I decided to change the business model so that users would deal between themselves, cutting out the middleman and the expensive process that involves.
As I continued sketching, I started forming a design language and brand style for my app. I also realised the need for certain features, like bookmarking a prop to come back to another time, and filter options for more relevant search results to help the user find what they’re looking for quicker.
After spending some time to reflect on my initial wireflows, I decided to jot down different categories and functions for the app that I could then design wireflows for to develop the app further. These lists I later developed on a document and gradually added to it as I discovered new needs and requirements. I have added ideas such as watching a search to receive notifications if a particular prop becomes available in your area and badges on props to say if they’ve been in a certain popular film. I’ve added forums in the app to help build up the community and thought of letting businesses or organisations have their own different kind of user account, like facebook and instagram so schools could share their theatre props too.
