This week I have looking at the Hierarchy of Design Needs for my ‘Props to You’ app for my Design Practice module. My minimal goals for this app to achieve Functionality would be to make sure the app works and you can successfully get a prop. It would need to follows basic design standards and adhere to copyright and law, as is standard for any app. To make it Reliable, it must of course work consistently. It ought t be able to store the user’s information and remember their settings. The design must be consistent and UI elements be where they are expected to achieve a consistent and reliable user experience. To make it Usable, the UI must be practical and intuitive and make sense. A regular user must be able to interact with the app without getting confused or lost in poor information architecture. I’d like it so that the user could find multiple props quickly and easily with a pinned search bar available to the user at all times. I will design the menu systems to be fully functional with options for accessibility and privacy etc. For Proficiency, I will try to make sure the app is a joy to use and the transition animation looks and feels nice. I will add a Bookmark feature so that users can save items for later as well as a Wishlist feature to ‘watch’ a search and keep notified if a particular prop is added in the area. The user will be able to filter and sort search results to quickly find exactly what they’re looking for. And finally, for the Creativity stage, I will allow users to interact with other members, including messages, rating transactions, or reporting abuse or errors. Along with a customisable profile, this will help users personalise their experience, build trust with one another and ultimate create a positive community so that they will return to the app time and time again.
